Sandford Sidings,

For ‘Victoria Works’

Originally there was once a pottery within Sandford, with clay being found nearby. The pottery had its own sidings on the mainline whereby the goods could be on loaded to be carried to their next destination for sale.

Facts known about the pottery include; it was built in 1856, but opened a little earlier as brickworks, created by Lady Burdett-Courts to employ Dorset labourers.

The pottery itself passed hands many time, and the majority of companies went bankrupt as a consequence.

It is known that trains were running as late a 1959 to the pottery, if anybody has any further information please contact me.

Ironically the developers of ‘Forest Edge’ followed trait as the pottery companies – the original developer realised that they did not have enough money to complete the project!
