Class 450 & 444
trains are the newest on the network. They have been ordered by South West
Trains to operate on long distance commuter routes. Other companies have
ordered these trains too due to there futuristic design.
These trains are
replacing the older class 421 rolling stock which have slam doors and may
contain aspestos. The class 450 & 455s have modern luxuries only previously
used in virgin voyagers, like Air conditioning & plugs for laptops. The
extra wattage required by these trains has caused problems on the network
“OUR NEW FLEET of
Desiro trains was introduced as part of a project to replace all slam-door
trains across the southern rail network by 2005. They need more electrical
power because they are heavier and have superior suspension, acceleration,
automatic doors, and air-conditioning.”
